Project Engineer

Summary
The Project Engineer will support the Director of Engineering in coordinating and assisting with the design and technical development of renewable energy projects, primarily utility-scale solar PV and energy storage systems. This role will work closely with utility companies, engineering firms, EPC contractors, and internal teams to ensure efficient project execution and compliance with technical and contractual requirements.
The ideal candidate is an early-career engineer with strong technical aptitude and interest in project management and engineering disciplines, particularly in electrical and/or civil engineering. This position offers exposure to multiple aspects of project design and delivery, providing a foundation for professional growth within the renewable energy industry. Travel to project sites or meetings with external stakeholders may be required approximately 10%–20% of the time.
Requirements
Project Engineering:
- Managing and tracking engineering deliverables and submittals from Contractors using project management software (e.g., Procore and Smartsheet).
- Support the review of EPC contractor deliverables, including drawings, submittals, and material selections, to ensure compliance with project specifications and company standards.
- Help coordinate communication between internal engineering, development, and construction teams, as well as external stakeholders.
- Coordinate design review meetings, documenting discussions, tracking action items, and supporting follow-up coordination.
- Review and organizing technical documentation for permit applications, interconnection submittals, and project approvals.
- Responsible for project progress tracking and reporting to ensure timely delivery of key milestones.
Technical and Communication Focus:
- Coordinate with Owner’s Engineer and EPC Engineer of Record on all engineering deliverables including electrical, civil, structural, racking and SCADA design
- Conduct detailed design reviews (e.g., page-turn reviews) to verify compliance with the EPC scope of work, permitting requirements, and utility interconnection standards.
- Help evaluate and communicate engineering request for proposals, diagrams, and specifications between internal and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate grid interconnection studies, communication protocols, and data management processes with utilities and other stakeholders.
- Participate in field visits to gather site information and assist with engineering-related inspections or data collection.
- Support civil design coordination activities, including review of site grading, drainage, and access road layouts.
- Participate in discussions and document reviews for substation, BESS, and PV plant civil or electrical designs.
- Analize data from geotechnical, hydrology, and interconnection studies.
- Experienced in leveraging OpenAI technologies to enhance efficiency in project design reviews and workflow management.
Required Education
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering are preferred).
Required Experience
- 1+ years of experience in engineering or related roles within the renewable energy or power generation industry.
Other Skills
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication; able to collaborate across teams and disciplines.
- Basic understanding of engineering design principles (civil or electrical).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or power system analysis tools is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Basic understanding of grid interconnection processes, regulations, and technical requirements.
- PMP or PE certification is a plus.
- Experience working with utilities, ISOs, permitting agencies, EPC contractors, engineering firms, etc. (is a plus).
Physical Requirements
The Project Engineer may be required to endure the following physical activities, environmental conditions, and physical demands:
- Remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods,
- Moving about accomplishing tasks or moving from one worksite to another,
- Adjusting or moving objects up to 20 pounds in all directions,
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers, and
- Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
