HOUSTON, TX — Trees For Houston and energyRe volunteers planted 25 native 15-gallon trees today at Bonham Park in Harris County Precinct 4, expanding shade and helping reduce urban heat in a neighborhood that feels Houston’s rising temperatures more intensely than many areas of the city.

The new trees will strengthen the park’s cooling capacity, improve air quality, and support storm-water absorption—key benefits for families who rely on this 8.6-acre space as a daily refuge.

“Neighborhoods experience heat differently, and planting trees where shade is limited can make a real difference,” said Barry Ward, Executive Director of Trees For Houston. “These native trees will help cool Bonham Park, create more comfortable public spaces, and support long-term community resilience.”

energyRe volunteers joined the project as part of the company’s commitment to strengthening local communities in the regions where it operates.

"The holiday season is a reminder of how important it is to show up for one another and strengthen the communities we call home,” said Ryan Brown, COO at energyRe. “We’re proud to support local partners and community-led efforts that make a meaningful, lasting impact. Whether it’s creating greener spaces, supporting families, or investing in local resilience, we’re committed to building a brighter future together."

The selected species were chosen for durability and canopy strength in Houston’s climate. As they mature, they will provide broad shade along walking paths, play areas, and open fields.

To commemorate the event, the energyRe team received a Certificate of Recognition from the Office of Precinct Commissioner Lesley Briones. The certificate was presented to energyRe’s Chief Operating Officer Ryan Brown by the Executive Director of Precinct 4 Forward, Kara Cook-Schultz.

The certificate reads: “On behalf of Harris County Precinct 4, thank you for your incredible service to the community. Your leadership and commitment strengthen the wellbeing and resilience of the Gulfton community. The Precinct proudly honors your service and dedication to environmental stewardship.”
